AME DRILL Step drag bit

Drag bits are designed for use in soft formations such as sand, clay, or some types of soft rock. Draggits can be either solid or welded construction. However, they will not work well in coarse gravel or hard rock formations. Uses include drilling waterwells, mining, geothermal, environmental, and exploration drilling.

Step-drag bits are a piece of construction of alloy steel cast with tungsten carbide cutting tips and gauge sides to ensure longer life. They are primarily designed for soft to medium formations.

  • A solid one-piece heat-treated 4140 alloy steel body for bit strength & durability; the bit’s core is forged from a single piece of 4140 alloy steel, which undergoes specialized heat treatment. This process significantly enhances the overall strength and durability of the bit, ensuring it can withstand extreme drilling pressures and prolong its operational lifespan.
  • CNC threaded machining for proper installation & use; precision is paramount for secure drilling, and the bit features advanced CNC threaded machining. This ensures perfectly formed threads, allowing for a tight, reliable connection to the drill string, which is crucial for preventing loosening and maintaining stability during aggressive drilling.
  • Forgings are milled to better seat the carbide inserts. The structural components of the bit, where the cutting elements are placed, undergo meticulous milling. This creates precisely contoured seats that perfectly cradle the carbide inserts, ensuring they are optimally positioned and securely anchored for maximum cutting effectiveness and resistance to dislodgement.
  • Select tungsten carbide inserts 5.5 mm thick are standard. To guarantee superior cutting performance and wear resistance, the bit is equipped with carefully chosen tungsten carbide inserts, each with a standard thickness of 5.5 mm. These robust inserts are designed to efficiently penetrate a variety of soft to medium-hard formations.
  • Relief is hand-ground behind carbide inserts for maximum performance. A critical detail for optimal functionality, the area directly behind each carbide insert is skillfully hand-ground to create relief. This specialized shaping significantly improves chip evacuation, preventing material buildup and allowing the inserts to continuously engage the formation for peak drilling efficiency.
