Ces tableaux sont essentiels pour les machinistes, les ing\u00e9nieurs et les bricoleurs afin d'identifier rapidement la taille correcte du foret n\u00e9cessaire pour une dimension de trou sp\u00e9cifique. En r\u00e8gle g\u00e9n\u00e9rale, ces tableaux font r\u00e9f\u00e9rence aux pouces fractionnaires, aux pouces d\u00e9cimaux, aux millim\u00e8tres et, souvent, au calibre ou \u00e0 la taille des fils, ce qui facilite la conversion entre les diff\u00e9rents syst\u00e8mes de mesure.
